Do Crew Event

I'm working on another Flights for 50 award. Today I'm at the Dewey's Pop-up Store. All proceeds from this store will go toward the SECU Family House.

Do Crew Event: Used Book Sale

The Shepherd's Center's annual book sale is one of my favorite Do Crew events. I am in absolute heaven walking down and around aisle after aisle of books.

Do Crew: Kettle Counting

January 12, 2018

Dear Volunteer,

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for all you did this Christmas season. The Salvation Army could have not assisted as many families - 2,295, children -- 5,425 and seniors -- 835, that we did this year without your help. Volunteers empower our organizations so that we may have the ability to serve our community; without your generosity of time and money this is not possible.

Whether you volunteered as a bell ringer, angel tree assistant, toy warehouse sorter or counted kettle money, your time means a family in our community was able to receive the assistance they needed this season.

One thing I can let you know is that The Salvation Army does have the best volunteers. When we put out the call for help, you are there! I cannot express my gratitude enough for what you did this Christmas season but I can tell you that it is with great pride that you have made a difference in someone’s life.

I pray that you are blessed many times over this year; I do hope that you will return once again and let others know what you did this season bringing more volunteers just like you to assist us once again.

Thank you and many blessings

The Shepherd's Center Used Book Sale

I love volunteering at The Sheperd's Center's annual used book sale. I'm around people who love books just as much as I do!

Do Crew: AIDS Care Services

When Larry advised he'd set up a Pride Do Crew event I was eager to volunteer.

Of course Larry waited until I'd signed up before telling me that we'd be responsible for cleaning out a koi pond. A koi pond. It sounded gross to me and every time he mentioned it my skin just crawled.

As you can see, it was gross.

My alternate job was pulling weeds. Now, the group did have to point out what were weeds and what were fine to leave. Here I am, hard at work.

At the end of the day, Holly Haven residents had a cleaned pond, some new flowers and a vegetable garden.

Do Crew: Moonlight Madness 5K and Fun Run

So it's been a while since Chad and I worked the Do Crew: Moonlight Madness 5K and Fun Run event. We were course cheerleaders in 2012. As you can see, for this year we were promoted to the beer station.

The beer was donated by Foothills Brewing. There was only one flavor - Strawberry Blonde. Most of the runners didn't mind. Some runners turned up their noses. I mean, come on. Are you really going to argue with free beer?

The guy from Foothills started pouring about an hour prior to the anticipated first wave of runners. I was mildly concerned that the beer would be 60 minutes warm, but then again, free beer.

As you can see we lined up the cups and then waited for the runners.

Destination Do Crew: Make A Wish Picnic in the Park

This is my favorite Do Crew event, which is why I usually sign up to be project lead. 98.7 Simon and Pepper Moon Catering team up for a fundraising event for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

For a mere $.98 you can get a hamburger/cheeseburger or hotdog and a bag of chips, an apple or banana and a bottle of water. And I must say, the cheesburgers are fantastic. It's another reason why I volunteer to work this event!

Simon plays some kickin' music. Today was a bit overcast, but usually the day is bright and sunny. I love meeting all the folks getting lunch and helping out a great cause.

Subject: Thank you for making our Winston-Salem Picnic in the Plaza a HUGE success!

Dear US Airways DO CREW Members,
I hope this note finds you all doing well today.
I wanted to thank you all again for your hard work yesterday at our Winston-Salem Picnic in the Plaza!  It was such a pleasure getting to know you all!  We raised nearly $3,000, which will go towards granting wishes to children in the Triad area – our most successful Picnic of 2013 so far!
We couldn’t have done it without you and truly appreciate all of your enthusiasm and dedication!  We hope to see you all again at our next Winston-Salem Picnic in the Plaza, scheduled for Wednesday, August 21.
On behalf of the children whose wishes we grant and all of us at Make-A-Wish, thank you for your time and your efforts!  If there is anyone else who volunteered yesterday that is not included, please forward this to them, as I don’t have their contact information.
I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your week and a great weekend!
Warmest Wishes,
Lauren

Do Crew

Chad and I are waiting for the Midnight Fun Run to start. (It really didn't start at midnight, rather the entire event was over by midnight.) Our job was to cheer the runners and make sure no one fell, got run over or needed any type of first aide.

Museum Do Crew

Earlier today Chad, Cade and I participated in a Do Crew event at the Children's Museum of Winston-Salem. We got to help out during the museum's "Kickoff to Kindergarten" event. I'd worked this event before and  knew how much fun it would be. I also thought Cade could give some really good advice.

As you can see, we were stationed in the Art Room. We helped the kids make mini-journals and/or color a 3D bus. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the kids stamp pictures and glue headers in their journals. Most of the stamped pictures turned out to be colored blobs but they were still happy with their creations. And I was happy that they were happy. Because there's nothing more infectious than a kid's laughter.
